In February 2o25, UK construction output showed a 0.4% increase in volume terms, following a revised 0.3% decrease in January 2025. This fall can be attributed to two key areas, as new work grew by 0.3%, and repair and maintenance increased by 0.5%.
A closer look at the sectoral level reveals that five of the nine construction sectors grew during this period. The sectors contributing most to this increase were public other new work, and public housing repair and maintenance. Public other new work grew by 4.4%, and public housing repair and maintenance increased by 4.0%.
Quarterly Trends
Construction output is estimated to have shown no growth (0.0%) in the three months to February 2025. An increase in new work, 1.2%, was offset by a fall in repair and maintenance of 1.5%.
In summary, the UK construction industry saw a modest 0.4% rise in output during February 2025, rebounding from a dip in January. Growth was driven by a 0.3% increase in new work and a 0.5% rise in repair and maintenance, with strong contributions from public other new work (4.4%) and public housing repair and maintenance (4.0%). However, the broader quarterly picture remained flat, as gains in new work (1.2%) were offset by a 1.5% decline in repair and maintenance.
